Newsweek released its 2025 rankings for the best nursing homes and care services in the U.S., and Ventana by Bucknerās nursing level ranked #1 in Texas followed by Baptist Retirement Communityās Sagecrest Center at #12. The rankings were in the category of 50-99 bed nursing residences.
Ventana by Buckner is the Dallas-based senior living community operated by Buckner Retirement Services. Baptist Retirement Community is the faith-based nonprofitās San Angelo community. Both are continuing care communities offering independent living, assisted living, memory care, and long-term care options.
The annual rankings by Newsweek are meant to āassist seniors and their loved ones in considering long-term care options.ā This is the fourth year Newsweek teamed with global data research firm Statista.
According to Newsweek, one of the challenges of aging is finding the right care source that is trustworthy. The rankings were developed to help an estimated 1.2 million nursing home residents (in 2023, per Statista) and their families know they are in good hands during a new phase of life.
Nancy Cooper, the global editor in chief for Newsweek, said, āThis yearās list recognizes 1,050 nursing homes across the 25 states with the highest number of facilities, according to Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services data.ā
The top nursing homes in each state were assessed and ranked based on four pillars, added Cooper. Those pillars included performance data, recommendations of medical professionals, accreditations and resident satisfaction.
āWe hope this list helps you find the best available care options for you or your loved ones,ā said Cooper.

The Newsweek rankings are the most recent in a list of third-party accolades in 2024 for Buckner senior living communities. Earlier this month, Buckner Retirement Services was recognized among the Fortune Best Workplaces in Aging Services, ranking tenth in the nation among small and medium-sized workplaces in senior housing and care.
In addition, five Buckner communities were recognized in February by U.S. News & World Report: Baptist Retirement Community in San Angelo for best short-term rehab, best long-term care, best independent living, best memory care and best CCRC; Parkway Place in Houston for best short-term rehab and best independent living; Ventana by Buckner in Dallas for best independent living and best short-term rehab; Buckner Villas in Austin for best independent living and best CCRC; and Westminster Place in Longview for best short-term rehabilitation care.
Continuing care communities mean seniors can move in with the peace of mind that assisted living and long-term care services and residence options are available to them if needed later in life.
